Who It Is: Brick Top - Demo; Self-Released (2014)

What It Sounds Like: early Turnover, The Hotel Year, Saves the Day

Brick Top was described to me as “the decent kind of pop punk.” Being cynical as I am, I thought to myself, “ha! Decent pop punk! I’ll be the judge of that!” You must understand, reader, that I’m always skeptical of new pop punk. Yes, I still enjoy bands like The Wonder Years, Fireworks (are they even pop punk anymore???), and Transit. But for the most part, bands like Real Friends, Man Overboard, Knuckle Puck, and Neck Deep ruined the genre for me. They’re bands that seem to just pander to kids who hate their towns and ex-girlfriends, but love pizza and hanging out. They are the not-decent kind of pop punk.
